Gartner Says Top 10 Strategic Technologies Will Be Assimilated Into Management Tools
Analysts Discuss the Impact of Cloud and Virtualisation on Infrastructure and Operations at Gartner IT Infrastructure & Operations Management Summit 2012, 12-13 June in Frankfurt, Germany
Egham, UK, 12 June 2012 — The impact of Gartner’s top 10 strategic technologies will not centre only on the business — their capabilities will also increasingly become integral to future generations of management architecture, according to Gartner, Inc.
“We are already seeing the adoption of 'big data' within the IT and operations management [ITOM] industry. In particular, software-as-service [SaaS] management providers now have to collect and synthesize large volumes of data,” said Milind Govekar, managing vice president at Gartner. “We also expect more next-generation analytics to come to the forefront to address an increasingly hybrid cloud environment. On the social front, IT service desk social management tools will establish an interactive relationship with end users, enhance end-user productivity, provide a platform to share information and ideas, and market the value of IT to the business.”
Gartner Identifies Organisational Implications of the Rise of Mobile Devices
Analysts Examine the State of the Industry at Gartner Application Architecture, Development & Integration Summit 2012, 21-22 June, in London
Egham, UK, 11 June 2012 — CIOs and IT leaders must address three key implications of the “post-PC” era, as workforces and consumers increasingly access IT applications and content through mobile devices, according to Gartner, Inc.
“The release of the iPhone five years ago marked a shift towards a mobile-dominated future,” said David Mitchell Smith, research vice president and Gartner Fellow. “With phones and tablets becoming a platform for the delivery of applications and information, and not simply a communications tool, the era of running applications solely on desktop and notebook PCs is rapidly being superseded by a fast-moving, diverse era of ecosystems that span consumer electronics, business computing, fixed-location clients and mobile clients.”
Gartner analysts identify three key implications of this shift and offer advice to help IT leaders and application development professionals prepare.

Gartner Says Worldwide IT Outsourcing Market Grew 7.8 Per Cent in 2011
Key Issues Facing ITO Industry to Be Examined at Gartner Outsourcing & Strategic Partnerships Summits 2012, 28-29 May in Tokyo; 5-6 June in Sao Paulo; 10-12 September in Orlando; and 8-9 October in London
STAMFORD, Conn., May 21, 2012 — Worldwide IT outsourcing (ITO) revenue totalled $246.6 billion in 2011, a 7.8 per cent increase from 2010 revenue of $228.7 billion, according to Gartner, Inc. Indian-based IT services providers and providers rooted in cloud-based services delivered the highest growth rates in 2011.
"Revenue cannibalisation resulting from client adoption of industrialised, and often cloud-based, services risks muting the growth opportunities for the ITO providers that are heavily weighted in infrastructure outsourcing," said Bryan Britz, research director at Gartner. "Strategies will vary as clients are likely to pursue hybrid cloud strategies requiring providers to deliver some asset-light and some asset-heavy offerings — which will result in varying growth trajectories among competitors over the next several years."

Small or midsize business (SMB) demand, advanced persistent threats and compliance were among the main drivers.
"Growth in the 2011 security market reflects a continuation in demand for consumer and enterprise security tools," said Ruggero Contu, research director at Gartner. "However, despite overall solid growth, some regions did not experience the high-double-digit growth of emerging Asia/Pacific and Eurasia, which has been driven by 'Greenfield' projects and buoyant economies. Western Europe remained the laggard because of the region's uncertain economic situation."
